About Supermama

Supermama, a distinguished design and lifestyle goods brand based in Singapore, embodies a remarkable journey that began as a family endeavor. Founded in 2010 by Mei Ling and her partner, the brand's inception was rooted in a profound decision – to take a year-long sabbatical from their full-time jobs, selling their home to fund the creation of a dream: a design shop.

The visionary couple, parents to Donna, Toby, and Natalie, aptly named the shop Supermama in homage to Mei Ling's unwavering support and selfless commitment to the family's aspirations. The name reflects the extraordinary decision Mei Ling made when their second child was just three months old, allowing the family to embark on a journey that defied convention.

Supermama's humble beginnings in December 2010 saw Mei Ling and her partner facing financial constraints and a lack of business experience. With expectations that the shop might fold within a year, they navigated the challenges of entrepreneurship without an official logo until a whimsical encounter with Donna's artwork led to the creation of a distinctive brand identity – a reminder to perceive the world through the innocent eyes of a child.

In 2013, a serendipitous meeting with the Japanese porcelain label KIHARA marked a pivotal moment for Supermama. This collaboration resulted in the Singapore Icons porcelain collection, earning the prestigious President's Design Award. Mei Ling's profound appreciation for Japanese crafts, cultivated since 2005, found expression in a dream collaboration with KIHARA, underscoring the brand's commitment to bridging cultural and geographical divides.

Over the years, Supermama's portfolio expanded, and by 2020, the brand celebrated its 10th Anniversary, a testament to resilience and meaningful relationships. The challenges faced along the way underscore the value of connections, with gratitude extended to friends in the Singaporean design and Japanese crafts communities.

Supermama's ethos revolves around the concept of giving, believing that good stories, design, and crafts translate into meaningful gifts. From the classic "Made in Arita Japan" blue and white porcelain to contemporary tableware, each Supermama piece reflects a harmonious blend of Asian craftsmanship and Singaporean design sensibility.

In 2013, Supermama's Singapore Icons collection received the President's Design Award, cementing its status as a premier source for locally designed homeware and souvenirs. The brand's commitment to quality and design excellence led to its appointment as the National Museums' retail partner, aligning with the rich heritage and history preserved at the National Museum of Singapore and the Asian Civilisations Museum.

Supermama continues to evolve, offering a museum-like respite in the midst of urban life, and looks forward to meeting patrons who share an appreciation for good design, craftsmanship, and the stories woven into each creation.
