Originally formulated by the German chemist Wilhelm Hauffmann, the brand gained prominence through its flagship product, the Eagle Brand Medicated Oil, often referred to as the "Green Oil."

Introduced to the Singaporean market by J Lea & Co, the trading house owned by Tan Jim Lay, Eagle Brand Medicated Oil flourished, becoming a trusted remedy in the post-war period. Recognizing its widespread acceptance, Tan Jim Lay seized the opportunity to expand the business. In 1960, Borden Company Ltd was established to take over J Lea & Co, marking a significant chapter in the brand's evolution.

Under Tan Jim Lay's leadership, Borden Company (Private) Limited not only acquired the formulation, bottle design, and trademark of Eagle Brand but also entered into a strategic partnership in 1960 to strengthen its capital base. With a purpose-built 7-storey light industrial building, the company houses state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing and testing machinery, a showroom, offices, and a warehouse – all operating under cGMP specifications.
